Bihu (Assam)

The folk dance of Assam is called 'Bihu'. Every Assamese, young or old, rich or poor, takes delight in this dance, which forms a part of the Bihu festival. The festival is held in mid-April, during the harvesting season (which lasts for a month). Throughout the day, all young men and women gather and dance together, to the tunes of drums and pipes, along with love songs.

Thang-ta & Dhol-Cholom (Manipur)

The Thang-ta dance of Manipur is an evolution from the martial arts exercises encouraged by the kings of Manipur. The dance is exciting in nature and is performed by young men holding swords and shields. One of the instruments that dominate Manipuri dances is the drum. Dhol Cholom, a drum dance, is one of the dances performed during Holi.

Oppana

Oppana is a popular form of dance among Muslims in Kerela. It is a form accompanied by clapping of hands in which men and women participate.

 

Chakri

Chakri is a popular folk dance of Kanjar tribe, inhabiting parts of Kota District in Rajasthan. This dance is performed exclusively by the womenfolk of this tribe, and forms their main source of income.
Almost all the marriages and festive occasions in the region feature a performance of this dance form. It involves a series of fast spinning movements done to the beats of the Dholak. This dance is accompanied by traditional songs.

Lavani Dance

The word Lavani is derived from Lavanya, meaning beauty. Lavani is a combination of dance and music, which deals with different and varied topics such as society, religion, politics, romance, etc. Attractive women wearing nine-yard saris typically perform the dance to the captivating rhythm of the dholak. The dance is sensually synchronized to a lively tune and teasing lyrics.

Daler Mehndi

Daler Mehndi specializes in a type of Hindi-Pop that he infuses with Rababi singing, a Sikh musical tradition. His popularity and the concurrent revival of Bhangra music is thought to be driven by the ease of dancing to it. Bolo Ta Ra Ra-1995, Ho Jayegi Balle Balle-1997, Tunak Tunak Tun-1998 and Rang De Basanti- 2006 are some of his popular hits.
 

Hariharan

Hariharan developed a passion for ghazals and started training in Hindustani music from Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. He used to put in nine hours of singing practice everyday. The committed Hariharan also put heart and soul into learning Urdu when he decided to become a ghazal singer.

 

Krishna Ballet

“Krishna” - A Dance Drama by Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra
'Krishna' a dance drama by Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra is based on the life of Lord Krishna. The first half of the dance drama, Krishna is devoted to the popular episodes like Makhan Chori, Govardhan, Kaliya Raas etc. In this production, a new dimension has been added to the status of women. Here, ‘Krishna’ himself elevates the status of ‘Radha’ from her being just a beloved to that of her being “his divine consort”. The second half relies on a specially commissioned script of lesser-known incidents from the Mahabharata.

Malini Awasthi

A self-confident and melodious singer, Malini Awasthi hails from Kannauj, U.P. She was among the top three finalists of JUNOON a singing competition onNDTV Imagine channel. She represented the Maati Ke Laal team.

Alka Yagnik

Alka Yagnik is classically trained and has been of the leading playback singers in Bollywood since the late 1980's. She shares the title with Asha Bhosle for the most number of Filmfare Awards won (7) by a single female playback singer. She has received numerous awards, and nomination in her singing career. "Ek Do Teen" for the film Tezaab-1988, "Zara Tasveer Se Tu" for the film Pardes-1997 and "Hum Tum" for the film Hum Tum-2004 are some of her popular hits.

Aslam Sabri
Aslam Sabri is one amongst the few Sufi qawwals of India and is the recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award from the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
He is a well-known artiste of Akashvani and Doordarshan and has been featured in almost all major music conferences across India.
His famous compositions are “Mohammad ke sehar mein, Kwaja ka karam, Jane ghazal “and “Mujhe ishq ho gaya”.
Hemant Brijwasi
“Hemant was one of the contestants of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs 2009, a singing competition on Zee TV. He was eliminated on July 18, 2009.
He returned to the show through a wild card entry on August 8, 2009. He was declared the winner of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs 2009 on October 24, 2009.
Shreyasi  
Shreyasi was one of the contestants of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs 2009, a singing competition on Zee TV. She was one of the top three finalists of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs 2009.

Pandit Jasraj (Padam Vibhushan)

Foremost exponent of Mewati gharana, Recipient of Padam Vibhushan and several other prominent Awards. Pt. Jasraj is one of India's premier classical vocalists. His greatest contribution to Indian music is his conception of a unique and novel jugalbandhi based on the ancient system of moorchanas, Between a male and a female vocalist, each singing in their respective scales and different ragas at the same time.

Tanushree Dutta
Tanushree Dutta (born 1985) is an actress and beauty queen from India. She won the Femina Miss India title in 2004, and was placed among the top ten in the Miss Universe 2004 pageant held in Quito, Ecuador.She debuted in Bollywood in 2005. She worked in two films simultaneously – Chocolate and Aashiq Banaya Apne.
Preeti Zhingyani
The chhui mui girl, Preeti Jhangiani, born on August 18 was a model before she entered into the attractive world of fame and glamour. She impressed everybody’s when she was first spotted in the music video Chhui Mui Si Tum. She got a launch pad that any newcomer would envy her for – the Yash Chopra Banner. She along with Shamita Shetty and Kim Sharma got the chance to be a part of Mohabbatein and share the screen with the amazing Shahrukh Khan and legendary Amitabh Bachchan.
Kim Sharma
Kim was born on January 21st 1980. She was born in Ahmednagar and did her schooling from a boarding school in Panchgani. After that she returned to her hometown and joined a junior college but hated her college.
Her debut film was Aditya Chopra's Mohabbatein with multi star cast. Mohabbatein happened and changed the course of her life.
 
Sanober Kabir
Sanober Kabir is an Indian singer and also an actress. Sanober got her major breakthrough as a singer with the album "The Return of Kaanta Mix". She is also an actress and has acted in few TV serials such as Tum Bin Jau Kaha (Zee TV), Arzoo Hai Tu (Sahara One), Karishma (Sahara One) etc.
Meghna Naidu

Meghna Naidu a telugu girl, was born and brought up in Vijayawada. Modelling profession took her to Mumbai, where she happened to do Kaliyon Ka Chaman video and with this song she climbed the ladders of popularity.
Meghna’s debut film is Karan Razdan’s Hawas in which she plays a wife who is tormented by the lack of passion in her married life and therefore goes into an extra marital relationship.

Sharda Sinha

Sharda Sinha (born October 9, 1952) is a famous folk-singer from Bihar. She is a music teacher. She has earned respect for, and given a new dimension to Maithili and Bhojpuri songs. She has received the Padma Shri for her contribution to music.
She has sung in many movies such as Maine Pyar Kiya and "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun" and has also produced several successful music albums such as Dulhin, Pirittiya, Mehndi etc.
